The Week Camelback Golf Club Goes Quiet, and What Fills It

For eight days this October, from Monday, Oct. 12, through Monday, Oct. 19, the Padre course, the Ambiente course and Tavern 37 are all closed together at Camelback Golf Club. Overseeding is an annual ritual, and anyone who lives along these fairways knows the sound of it. This year's posted schedule stacks the closures so that the full club goes dark in the middle of the month. The same weeks also bring a reopened spa, two dinners open to the neighborhood and new restaurants a short drive east on Hayden Road. Taken together, they keep the season moving while the grass grows in.

What follows runs in calendar order, from now until the second course reopens in November.

How the three closures overlap

The club's overseeding notice lists three separate windows. Laid side by side, they look like this:

  • Padre course: closed Monday, Sept. 28, through Monday, Oct. 19
  • Ambiente course: closed Monday, Oct. 12, through Thursday, Nov. 5
  • Tavern 37: closed Monday, Oct. 12, through Monday, Oct. 19

Padre is already closed this weekend, and Ambiente is the course in play. That changes on Oct. 12, when Ambiente and Tavern 37 close the same day Padre enters its final week. On the dates posted, Padre and Tavern 37 should both reopen Tuesday, Oct. 20, and Ambiente on Friday, Nov. 6. The club can extend overseeding windows, so check the Camelback Golf Club homepage before planning a tee time near either end.

So the real gap is one week long. For the rest of the stretch, a course is open somewhere on the property. That shapes what fills it. The week of Oct. 12 needs options within a few minutes of home, and late October into early November simply needs Ambiente back.

Oct. 12 to 19, on the other side of Lincoln Drive

The closest option to the fairways is the reimagined Spa at Camelback Inn. According to an Experience Scottsdale release from January, the renovation cost about $25 million. PHOENIX magazine's May 2026 staycation guide reports that the spa reopened in February. For many neighbors, the club's dark week may be the first unhurried chance to see it.

The renovation added four spaces.

  1. The Wellness Circuit: private men's and women's thermal circuits with sauna, steam and cold immersion.
  2. The Wellness Waters: a hydrothermal sequence of three pools. The Flow is the main pool, The Still is a salt pool and The Chill is the cold pool.
  3. The Sanctuary: a co-ed post-treatment room built around silence and natural light.
  4. The Stillness Lounge: Mind-Sync Harmonic Wellness Loungers, weighted blankets, eye masks and noise-canceling headphones, intended to reduce stress and improve sleep.

Access works differently from the golf club. The spa's FAQ says a spa day includes the sauna, cold plunge, vitality pool and Wellness Waters, and it points visitors to book a treatment. Marriott's listing marks the spa "Appointment required" and gives daily hours of 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The spa's public pages show no standalone day pass. They do advertise a limited number of private spa memberships, which is the documented ongoing route for someone who lives nearby rather than staying at the resort. The spa is adults-only, for guests 18 and older. To confirm what a treatment booking includes for a local visitor, call the spa directly at 480-596-7040.

The October class calendar is also worth checking for that week. It lists Mountain Bathing, Energy Flow, Sound Bath Meditation, Yogalaties and Somatic Movement. Under the spa's posted class terms, members receive classes and one class is included per spa guest, with more available for purchase. If you book a treatment, a Sound Bath can fill the rest of the morning.

Lunch can stay inside the spa. Ora Café is the spa's private poolside café. It's open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a menu Marriott says was developed with a licensed nutritionist. Current plates include chia pudding at $18, a kefir-yogurt açaí smoothie bowl at $20, edamame hummus at $19, smoked-salmon fettunta at $22, a Baby Kale Caesar at $18 and a Melon Fattoush at $20. The official pages don't say whether the café seats diners who aren't spa guests or members, so ask about it when you book.

Thursday, Oct. 15, the night Tavern 37 can't host

With the clubhouse restaurant closed, the resort's first dinner open to locals lands in the middle of the dark week. Spanish Sunset Experience is scheduled for Oct. 15. It's an al fresco reception built around Spanish food, running 6 to 8 p.m., with prices starting at $125 per person before tax and service. Marriott also lists a second date, Nov. 12, for anyone who would rather wait for the courses to reopen.

Tuesday, Oct. 20, Padre and Tavern 37 are back

Under the posted schedule, the dark week ends here. Padre returns from its three-week overseeding, Tavern 37 reopens, and Ambiente stays closed until Nov. 6. For the next two and a half weeks, the property is back to running one course.

Saturday, Oct. 24, Night in Naples on Hoppin' Jack's patio

The second dinner open to locals falls four days after Padre reopens, which makes it an easy round-then-dinner Saturday. Night in Naples runs 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on the cooled patio at Hoppin' Jack's, at the resort's 5402 East Lincoln Drive address. The evening opens with a prosecco and charcuterie reception and moves into a family-style southern Italian menu. The menu includes a Truffle Wild Mushroom Pinsa and Veal Osso Buco, followed by tiramisu and sfogliatella. Rates start at $99 per person before tax and service. The resort says the event is open to resort guests and locals alike, and it's limited to adults 21 and older. Reservations go through the Night in Naples event page.

Any night this month, a short drive east to McCormick Ranch

The other new options are a few minutes east on Hayden Road. They don't depend on any closure schedule, and they're new enough that most neighbors probably haven't tried them yet.

Vecina opened its second location in September at 8300 Hayden Road, Suite D-101, in the space Z'Tejas used to occupy near Hayden Road and Via de Ventura. Phoenix New Times reported the opening on Sept. 18, 2026. Husband and wife James and Raenee Fox first opened Vecina in Arcadia in 2019, and Raenee calls the new room "a really good extension of what we do in Arcadia." The original was a James Beard Award semifinalist for Best New Restaurant in 2020. For now the Scottsdale location serves dinner, with lunch planned for the coming months. Details are on Vecina's site.

Dash is the next opening on the corridor and is scheduled for November, close to when Ambiente reopens. It comes from chef Matt Carter and restaurateur Brian Raab, the partners behind Zinc Bistro, The Mission and Fat Ox. It's their first new concept in about 10 years, and it will sit near Hayden and Mountain View roads. The planned address is 9619 N. Hayden Road, #101. The all-day menu is expected to include coffee and pastries, sandwiches, Roman-style pizza, charcoal chicken and soft-serve, along with a small retail market and patio seating. Carter told Phoenix New Times that the location is near where he lives and that the menu is "all these things that I either wanted to cook for myself or I wanted to eat in my neighborhood." Opening dates for new restaurants often move, so watch Dash's site for a firm date.

Friday, Nov. 6, both courses again

Under the club's posted schedule, Ambiente reopens on Nov. 6 after closing on Oct. 12. From then on, both courses are open, Tavern 37 has been back for more than two weeks, the second Spanish Sunset dinner is six days away on Nov. 12, and Dash is due sometime that month.

If you mark the start of the season by when the Camelback courses come back green, it's also a good time to understand what your home along them is worth heading into winter.
